I was dirt poor, student poor, when I studied in Oxford (long ago) and this was a really cheap way to get on the river for a little bit and see the city. Let's put it this way: I've never been to the Tower of London b/c I couldn't afford the entrance fee at the time but I could manage the boat ride.
